Prompt: 7 September, Temporary neighbors

The fire had caught everyone off guard. Minseok had escaped the dorm with his life and very little else, and SM, moving fast like they so often didn't, found them all a place in another building until they could get everything settled.

What he hadn't expected - aside from how much room they actually had without all of their clothes and everything else, the detrius of being a Kpop group - was how much room they actually had. It was sort of amazing. He didn't miss the way some of the others complained about their missing things, and they had a couple of people who found it hard to sleep, even as grown men. Minseok didn't blame them. Their occupation engendered all sorts of coping mechanisms.

Getting used to new neighbors made it at least interesting, and they spent the first week or so trying to be quiet so that they didn't disturb anyone. Until Minseok discovered their immediate neighbor, by literally running into him. Minseok was taller, but Eunkwang was larger, bulkier, and that made the difference. Minseok staggered backwards, catching himself on the wall. "Sorry," he said, and bowed.

"Are you okay?' Eunkwang asked, stopping close to him.

"Embarrassed," Minseok admitted. "Are you okay?"

Eunkwang grinned at him. "I'm fine," he said. "I didn't get tossed backwards."

Minseok grinned back. "It was only fair, I ran into you," he said.

"Are you all here?" Eunkwang asked.

Minseok grimaced. "Yeah. We don't know how long. They haven't cleared the building so we can get in and get our stuff yet."

Eukwang nodded. "That's got to be rough," he said. "Are all eight of you in there?"

"Unbelievably, yes," Minseok said. "It's not too bad, because we don't have anything but some clothes and one pair of shoes."

Eunkwang gave him a horrified look. "Each?"

"We didn't have time to grab anything, and getting clothes is going slowly. They won't let us send everything to the company all at once, so it's... it's slow." Minseok shrugged. "We're doing a lot of laundry."

Eunkwang snickered, and then sobered. "Sorry. That's not funny."

"Oh, it is," Minseok said. "We all have our clothes labeled like we're in elementary school, so no one gets anything confused. Not that some people aren't thieves, but at least we can figure out who everything belongs to."

"It still sounds inconvenient," Eunkwang said.

Minseok shrugged. "Maybe a little bit, but it's not a big deal," he said. "I'd rather have them all there than be missing some because they were hurt or... or didn't make it out."

Eunkwang nodded sagely. "Yes," he said softly. "That is definitely true."

Minseok smiled wryly at him. "I need to go. Don't hesitate to let us know if we get too loud."

"I won't," Eunkwang said, and stepped out of the way.

Minseok bowed to him and went into the apartment, shutting the door and leaning against it for a moment before taking his shoes off and going in to get a drink and try to relax. The conversation had taken such a dark turn, and so quickly. He wondered if he was stuck on it for some reason. He drank his glass of water, washed it out and put it away, and then went back to his bedroom to get his earbuds and sit quietly on his bed until he felt steadier.
