Title: Better Days
Fandom: Granblue Fantasy
Pairing/Characters: Uriel, Lucifer
Content Notes: N/A; this is a post-WMTSB alt-timeline
Prompt: Sept 2/distant memory
-
Lucifer was by himself today, but he was smiling. Uriel's first thought was that it was the food, which Lucifer was quietly eating, but he also hoped it was more.
He knew what Lucifer had been through, but he'd never pretend he understood all of it. Instead he'd just watched from the sidelines, doing what he could when he could.
Most of the time, that involved cooking. He could cook. When the skies needed him to tweak a little bit of elemental power here or there, he could do that, too. But... it wasn't often. It hadn't been often.
Uriel had to admit that he liked the way things were now, at least for himself. He was having one of the easiest times of it, though. He hadn't struggled-
He watched Lucifer for a long moment, eating slowly but definitely there and not lost in some distant memory.
-he wasn't struggling.
That in itself was a little surprising. If anyone had asked him, after the war, if he'd be capable of change, of finding a hobby and turning it into a new career, well, Uriel was sure he'd be the first to say that primal beasts didn't work that way. He'd be steady and unchanging. Evolution was for skydwellers.
He finished chopping up the potatoes he'd need for his dinner menu and moved on to his next task.
Lucifer had almost died, or maybe he had, in some way. He'd survived, with half his power passed to Sandalphon and half burned to cinders while regenerating himself.
At first he'd just watched the blue sky of Sazak. Then he'd wandered...
But he'd survived. He was there with them and they were all finding their way forward together.
"This is really good, Uriel!"
Lucifer's smile was infectious. Uriel smiled too.
"Good to hear it!"
