"That was a lot of reading," Lan said as Mitra let himself in. "I don't know how I let you talk me into this."
"You mentioned an interest, and I was already signed up for the distance course," Mitra reminded him. "Besides, we're halfway through."
"Which is why we're writing papers, which I was never that great at even when I was a normal student." Lan leaned back and looked up at the ceiling. "I have no idea what to write about, yet alone how to make it three pages."
"These courses aren't for dedicated academics," Mitra sat beside him, datapad out. "Just write like you would a damage report. I know you can write three pages just about a power fluctuation on the Pandemonium. Three pages about some aspect of Chinese history shouldn't be that difficult."
"Maybe."
Lan grinned at Mitra.
"What are you going to write about?"
Mitra shrugged. "I haven't decided yet. I'm still going through sources and cross-referencing with the readings. There are a lot of small topics that seem the most interesting but I don't know if I can get three pages out of them, fact-checked, in the amount of time we have."
"Depends what's been digitized and available on the web in general?"
"And if we can get Varuna and Sincere to bulk-download it for us and sort out the chaff?"
Lan laughed. He wouldn't have said it but yes, the thought had crossed his mind.
"I think we can do this much on our own."
Well, he'd try at least. Picking a topic would help.
Mitra held out his datapad. "Here, these are some of my preliminary ideas..."
